This is a quick procedure of creating and using pre-freeze-script and post-thaw-script for using with VMWare snapshots. Pre-freeze-script and post-thaw-script are custom scripts used to perform some operations including quiescing of an application/database before taking snapshot. OnQ leverages VMware tools ability to call custom freeze/thaw scripts during a quiesced snapshot to enable customers to do the required application quiescence.

For specific details on creating and using these scripts, please consult VMWare documentation.

1. Create pre-freeze-script.bat and post-thaw-script.bat files.
2. Include operations to be performed in to these scripts. See simple example scripts.
3. Save pre-freeze-script.bat and post-thaw-script.bat files either under "C:\program files\vmware\vmwaretools\backupScript.d\" folder or "C:\WINDOWS" folder on the protected node. When using "C:\program files\vmware\vmwaretools\backupScript.d\", both pre and post can be combined as in the example script (pre-freeze-n-post-thaw.bat).
4. initiate backup of PN from onQ portal.
